Work from Home: Tips for parents who are working from home

Monday, August 22, 2022
Working from home can sometimes become difficult due to the constant interruptions from siblings, parents or husbands/wives. This difficulty increases all the more when you have to work from home with your kids. You have to attend to your work commitments and along with that you also have to attend to the different needs of your child.

Managing both work and kids at the same time can become difficult. One time you might ace at work while not there for your child, on the other hand, while you are there for your child, it might affect your work performance. You can’t ignore either of them when you are working from home and therefore, the only way out of this is to balance the two. Here are a few tips to smoothly work from home while also taking care of your kids.

  1. Plan your days in advance. Planning your days in advance helps to keep your child busy and also keeps them engaged in something. When they are engaged in doing their work, you too can focus on your work without any distractions.
  2. Always make a schedule and follow that. When you make a schedule and stick to it, your kids know what to do and when to do it. If your schedule says that they have to study at a certain time, they will study at that time, if they are told to eat their meals at a certain time, they eat at that time only. Make sure that you stick to one schedule and not change it frequently.
  3. Keep a check on their screen time. You might sometimes feel relieved when your child watches those TV shows but too much of that is not good for them. Therefore, it is important that you keep a strict check on their screen time and engage them in other activities.
  4. Try and complete most of the work while they are napping or sleeping. When you are done with most of the work when they are napping, you can spend time with them when they are awake and also, be a part of their regular activities.
